The short version
What this page is
Colorado Water Connect is a public-interest map that anyone, anywhere, can read without an account. Because there are no logins, there is no profile of you to build. The only things stored are the handful of preferences that make the site work and, if you allow it, anonymous, aggregated measurement that tells us which pages get used. We don’t sell data, we don’t run advertising, and we don’t share what little we collect except as this page describes.
What we collect
Two categories, and nothing else. One is required for the site to function; the other only runs with your consent.
Always on · essential
Essential storage
A small amount of local storage in your browser holds things like your cookie choice and the region you’re viewing, so the site remembers them between pages. This never leaves your device and isn’t tied to an identity.
Purpose:making the site work and remembering your own preferences. Can’t be switched off, because the site needs it.

Privacy-focused analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2. Until you opt in, it runs in a restricted, cookieless mode that collects only anonymous, aggregate counts — no advertising signals and no cross-site tracking. IP addresses are not stored.
Purpose: understanding which pages and basins get used, so the map can be improved. Turn it on or off any time below.
Your choices
These controls are offered to everyone who visits, wherever you are. You don’t need an account, and you don’t need to give a reason — the optional analytics stays off until you switch it on, and you can switch it back off whenever you like.

Ask what personal data, if any, the site holds about you, and get a copy of it.
Delete
Ask that any personal data the site holds be deleted, and have that confirmed to you.
Opt out
Opt out of targeted advertising, sale, and profiling. We don't do any of these; the control above already covers analytics.

Visitors outside the US
This map is public everywhere, so people visit from well beyond Colorado. If you’re in the EU, the UK, or another region with data-protection law such as the GDPR, the same choices apply to you: analytics stays off until you opt in, and you can ask to access or delete any personal data we hold using the contact below. We rely on your consent for the optional analytics and on legitimate interest for the essential storage that keeps the site running.
